Since 1972, Hedgehog's single focus has been the acquisition, rehabilitation, leasing and management of older, often historic properties. Over the years, we have completed a number of projects that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places or are within a National Register Historic Districts. Our properties include the Civil War Era Farren's Stable renovated in 1978 and located in Washington, D.C.'s Capitol Hill Historic District. Farren's Stable houses The Washington Athletic Club and the U.S. Public Interest Research Group; Raleigh's Mary Elizabeth Hospital was built in 1918 and has a colorful history. It is under consideration for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The former hospital complex has been converted to office space and has served as Headquarters for The North Carolina Partnership for Children; Smart Start, since 2000. Pilot Mill is Raleigh's oldest surviving textile mill. It began operation in 1894 and at one time employed more than 500 workers. In 2003, we completed the rehabilitation of the last of three main buildings at Pilot Mill. The buildings house a number of professional firms and the Raleigh Charter High School. In 2008, we will begin the rehabilitation of the River Mill at Glencoe, an early water powered textile mill that began operation in 1880. The Mill is situated on the banks of the Haw River and adjoins the Glencoe Mill Village, an intact 19th Century village of homes that have been renovated over the last decade. MISSION Our mission is to recycle obsolete buildings by adapting them to meet the current needs of creative people, their interests, businesses and professions. Our business centers on developing and nurturing stable, long-term business relationships with our tenants, employees and professional associates. To achieve our mission, we undertake only that which we can do well and by so doing strive to distinguish ourselves by exceeding the expectations of our partners and associates. To that end, we manage and maintain only our own properties. STAFF Frank Gailor manages acquisition and development of properties. His background is in finance and law.
